UAFS women's basketball team has lost its first in the last five games as the Lady Lions fell to no. 9 nationally-ranked Lubbock Christian Lady Chaps by the score of 71-63. The Lady Lions put up a great fight against another top 10 opponent and were led by
Ashanti Eden with 19 points and five rebounds while
Tamera Gulley added a double-double with 11 points and 14 rebounds. The Lady Lions are now 12-11 overall on the season and 9-8 in conference play, as they continue their pursuit for the top 8 teams in the conference which would ensure home court advantage in the first round of the Lone Star Conference tournament.
Offensively, the Lady Lions scored 63 points on 43.1 percent shooting from the field, 27.3 percent from downtown and 71.4 percent from the free throw line. The leading scorers for the Lady Lions in this game were Eden (19) and
Leiloni Culley (15) while
Tamera Gulley added 11 points. As a team, the Lady Lions scored 38 points in the paint and the bench contributed with 38 points. UAFS distributed 14 assists, led by
Alexsis Brown (6) and
Hannah Boyett (3).Â
On the defensive end, the Lady Lions allowed their opponents 71 points on 51.1 percent shooting from the field, 33.3 percent from the three point line and 84 percent from the charity stripe. UAFS grabbed 30 rebounds (12-18) and were led by Gulley (14) and Eden (5). The Lady Lions also forced 17 turnovers, which led to them scoring 15 points. UAFS recorded eight steals, and were led by Brown (3).Â
