UAFS men's basketball team has started the weekend off with loss as the Lions fell to Eastern New Mexico Greyhounds by the score of 51-52. One second before the end of the regulation, at the score 51-51, Greyhounds forward Marvin Mapaga drew a shooting foul after an offensive rebound. Mapaga made one of two free throws to put Eastern New Mexico up by one, which was enough for the Greyhounds to finish the game off.The Lions were led by
Matthew Wilson with 18 points and five rebounds.
UAFS is now 5-5 overall on the season and 1-3 in conference play ahead of their matchup with West Texas A&M.
Offensively, the Lions shot 44.7 percent from the field, 33.3 percent from downtown, and only 50 from the free throw line. Scoring leaders for the UAFS team were Willson (18),
Matt Morgan (12), and
Charles Botchway (8). The Lions also recorded 10 assists, as they were led by Botchway (8).
Defensively, UAFS held the Greyhounds to a 36.4 shooting percentage, 35.7 percent shooting from beyond the arc, and 55.6 percent from the free throw line. The Lions also grabbed 32 rebounds, led by
Chris Rollins (6), Wilson (5) and Botchway (5). UAFS forced 19 turnovers from their opponent, while also recording eight steals, led by Wilson (2).
