Some consider it the best junior college women's basketball team ever.

The 1994-95 Westark College women's basketball team completed an undefeated 35-0 season by defeating Trinity Valley Community College, 82-75, in the national championship game.

Westark shot 63.6 percent in the championship game and received 28 points from two-time first team NJCAA All-America guard Kim Williams. Forward Alisa Burras added 17 points and nine rebounds while forward Marie Scott chipped in with 16 points and nine boards.

Williams would be named MVP of the NJCAA national tournament and head coach Louis Whorton was named the NJCAA Coach of the Year.

"We went down there with one thing on our minds, to bring back the championship trophy, and we did," Burras said.

The Lady Lions were dominant throughout the regular season, playing an aggressive style of basketball that highlighted the depth of the team. The championship game was the only game decided by single digits.

"That was the success of the team," UAFS public address announcer Preston Williams said. "You had to account for the entire team. There were spots in some games where a player comes off the bench, and boom, you didn't see a change or difference in the results."

The aggressive style allowed the Lions to play from ahead and wear teams down. Williams recalls a time where an opponent came into the Westark Fieldhouse and failed to get the ball across half court for nearly five minutes.

Coming off a runner-up finish the season before, Whorton was confident heading into the season.

Following the blue and white preseason scrimmage, Whorton smirked and said to Williams, "I think I could win the Big 12 Conference with this team."

That was the kind of caliber of team this was.

12 of the 15 players on that season's roster went on to play at four-year schools, including six at Division I institutions. Both Williams and Burras went on to play in the WNBA and are current members of the UAFS Athletics Hall of Fame.
