FORT SMITH, Ark. - University of Arkansas - Fort Smith Women's Tennis earned its first ever MIAA win Friday as the Lions defeated Fort Hays State, 4-3, at The Hangout.
The win also surpasses last year's win total with still five matches to play.
Arianna De Bernardo and Rayssa Domingues started the match with a 6-2 win at No. 1 doubles, but the Tigers won at Nos. 2 & 3 to take the doubles point.
De Bernardo and Antonietta Bocache then gave the Lions a 2-1 advantage, as De Bernardo cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 1 and Bocache eased to a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 3.
Domingues then put the Lions on the doorstep of the win with a 6-4, 6-3 win at No. 2. Chiara Sobenes closed out the win for the Lions with a 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 4.
At No. 5, Gracie Pereff battled to a 7-6, 6-3 defeat.
UAFS continues MIAA play Sunday at 10 a.m. against Nebraska-Kearney at The Hangout.
