FORT SMITH, Ark. - University of Arkansas - Fort Smith Baseball saw its three-game winning streak snapped Tuesday as the Lions dropped a 13-3 decision against Northeastern State at Crowder Field.
The RiverHawks scored four runs in the first inning before Eli Gilreath entered and retired 16 batters in a row before Northeastern tagged him for three runs in the seventh. Gilreath finished with 5.2 innings pitched while allowing five hits and striking out four.
UAFS got on the board in the fifth when outfielder Nick Mazzola reached on an error and advanced to second before scoring on an RBI single by infielder Layne Sweat. The Lions then got another in the sixth when outfielder CJ Snowden singled, stole second and scored on an RBI single by outfielder Wyatt Pierce to make it 4-2.
However, the RiverHawks scored three times in the seventh and six in the eighth before the Lions scored their final tally on a wild pitch in the bottom of the eighth.
Snowden and Mazzola each led the Lions with two hits on the afternoon while Mazzola scored twice.
UAFS is back in action this weekend as it visits Central Missouri for a three-game MIAA series.
