FORT SMITH, Ark. - University of Arkansas - Fort Smith Men's Basketball rallied from down eight late in the second half to force overtime but fell to Rogers State, 84-79, Saturday in the regular season finale at the Stubblefield Center.
The Lions trailed 63-55 with 7:55 left but used an 8-0 run to tie the game at 63 just two minutes later. UAFS was never able to take the lead but traded baskets with the Hillcats until the final minute.
UAFS had a chance to win with seconds left in regulation, but the shot rimmed out to force overtime.
The Hillcats scored the first four points of overtime and started the period on a 10-1 run. A flurry of late threes got the Lions within 82-79 with 36 seconds left. The Hillcats missed a pair of free throws to give the Lions a chance, but a turnover ended the comeback.
UAFS scored the first six points of the game, but the Hillcats answered with six straight of their own. The Lions led 30-27 with 6:14 left in the half but Rogers ended the half on a 13-3 run.
Guard Brandon Scott led four in double figures with 25 points after going 10-for-10 at the line with six rebounds and four steals. Guard Christian Moore added 15 points with six boards and five assists while guards VJ Reeves and Jarren McAllister each finished with 14 points.
The Hillcats shot 50.9 percent overall and 50.0 percent from three while UAFS shot just 31.0 percent from beyond the arc.
UAFS now turns its focus to the postseason with the MIAA Tournament next weekend.
