FORT SMITH, Ark. – Henderson State scored 13 runs in the first three innings as University of Arkansas - Fort Smith Baseball dropped a 19-7 decision to the Reddies Tuesday at Crowder Field.
The Lions got on the board in the first on an RBI groundout by outfielder Nick Mazzola to make it 4-1, but the Reddies scored nine times over the next two frames.
UAFS made a dent in the deficit with a five-run fifth inning as the first six batters reached safely. After three straight walks, outfielder CJ Snowden singled in a pair followed by a two-run triple by Mazzola. Mazzola then scored on an RBI single by outfielder JJ Young.
The rally ended there as the Reddies added insurance runs in the sixth and seventh and then four more in the ninth.
Snowden led the Lions at the plate by going 4-for-4 with two runs scored. Infielder Layne Sweat walked twice and scored twice.
UAFS returns to MIAA action this weekend against Pittsburg State at Crowder Field.
