SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – The University of Arkansas - Fort Smith tennis teams each picked up decisive victories Saturday over Evangel as the men won 7-0 while the women earned a 6-1 win.
The men had a clean sweep of doubles, with Eduardo Bribiesca and Birk Arwedahl winning 6-2 at No. 1 while Simeon Latinchev and Nathan Rigault teamed for a 6-2 win at No. 2. At No. 3, Kevin Praphan and Kivanc Bedir won 6-3.
Five of the six singles matches went in straight sets in favor of the Lions, starting with Bribiesca with a 6-4, 6-4 win at No. 1. Arwedahl earned a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 2 while Latinchev clinched the match with a 6-0, 6-4 win at No. 3.
Rodrigo Hoppe tallied a 6-3, 6-2 decision at No. 4 and Kevin Praphan won 6-1, 7-6 at No. 6. Nathan Rigault went three sets in his match before earning a 6-2, 2-6, 10-4 win.
Women's tennis earned its second win of the year by taking the doubles point with a 7-5 win at No. 1 by Arianna De Bernardo and Rayssa Domingues and a 6-3 win at No. 2 by Antonietta Bocache and Gracie Pereff.
In singles action, De Bernardo, Bocache and Chiara Sobenes all earned 6-1, 6-1 wins while Domingues won 6-0, 6-2 at No. 2 and Pereff tallied at 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 5.
Both teams are next in action February 27 at noon at Texas Wesleyan.
