HAYS, Kan. – University of Arkansas – Fort Smith Volleyball dropped its third straight road MIAA match Friday as the Lions fell at Fort Hays State, 14-25, 18-25, 23-25.
The Tigers hit .313 and .375 in the first two sets and hit .250 for the match while the Lions hit just .085.
UAFS trailed by just a point in the opening set when the Tigers rattled off a 10-1 run to put the set out of reach. In set two, Fort Hays broke a 6-6 tie with a 7-0 run as it took set two from the Lions.
The Lions led 14-13 in set three when the Tigers had another 7-0 run to take a 20-14 lead. UAFS battled back, scoring seven of eight points and holding off four match points to pull within 24-23. However, a service error gave the Tigers the match.
Lydia Pitts led the Lions with nine kills while Codi Jackson added seven kills. Mayli Whetter had 19 assists, with Bree Pardy recording a team-best 12 digs. Pitts tallied 10 digs in defeat.
UAFS is back at the Stubblefield Center for three matches next week, staring Monday at 6 p.m. against UA-Monticello.
