PITTSBURG, Kan. – Guard Telisha Brown and forward Marie Rose Priscilla Wemba each scored 16 points as University of Arkansas – Fort Smith Women's Basketball went toe-to-toe with No. 11 Pittsburg State Saturday before falling to the Gorillas, 68-58.
The Gorillas started the game on a 7-0 run and led by 12 in the first half before the Lions started to chip away in the third quarter.
UAFS started the second half on a 13-3 run over the first five minutes, cutting the lead to 39-37. The Gorillas then grew the lead back to nine before the Lions used a 7-0 run over a two-minute stretch in the third and fourth quarters. UAFS shot 61.5 percent in the third.
However, the Gorillas then went on a 12-2 run to go back ahead by double digits before Brown scored the last five points for the Lions.
Wemba added seven rebounds for the Lions, while guard Jah'Mareah Linville tallied eight points and seven boards.
UAFS returns home Thursday to face Nebraska-Kearney at 5:30 p.m. at the Stubblefield Center.
