FORT SMITH, Ark. – Forward Marie Rose Priscilla Wemba posted a double-double of 10 points and 16 rebounds as University of Arkansas - Fort Smith Women's Basketball cruised to a 67-49 win over Nebraska-Kearney at the Stubblefield Center on Thursday.
Wemba was 4-for-5 from the floor and her 16 rebounds put her in a tie for the eighth most in a single game in the NCAA II era.
After a back-and-forth first half, the Lions took control in the second half. Leading 32-30 at the break, UAFS erased a 5-0 Loper run with an 8-0 burst to take a 40-35 lead and never look back, as guard Keytonna Ross spurred the run with six points.
An 11-0 run over the final four minutes of the third gave the Lions a 53-41 lead as they took a 10-point lead to the fourth.
UAFS held the Lopers to 16.7 percent shooting in the fourth as the Lions pulled away for the 18-point win.
The Lions shot 42.1 percent overall and held UNK to 30.2 percent and 13.8 percent from three. UAFS had 24 bench points and outrebounded the Lopers, 46-33.
Ross led the Lions with 15 points, six rebounds and four assists while both guards Haleigh Jackson and Senese Rainey each added 10 points. Guard Telisha Brown had eight points, four boards, five assists and three steals off the bench.
Up next the Lions will face No. 8 Fort Hays State at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Stubblefield Center.
