FORT SMITH, Ark. - University of Arkansas - Fort Smith Women's Basketball was unable to keep pace with No. 13 Pittsburg State Thursday, dropping a 79-56 decision to the Gorillas at the Stubblefield Center on Thursday.
After the Gorillas opened the game on a 7-0 run, the Lions clawed their way back to within two at 13-11. However, the Lions were unable to slow the Pitt State offense in the second quarter, as the Gorillas shot 50.0 percent.
UAFS cut the deficit back to single digits in the second half at 51-44 after a 7-0 run, only for the Gorillas to close out the quarter on a 10-3 run.
Pitt State finished at 43.5 percent from three while the Lions shot 32.8 percent from the floor.
D'Ajha Horton led the Lions with 14 points of the bench while Marie Rose Priscilla Wemba tallied 11 points. Haleigh Jackson led the Lions with nine rebounds, with both Layne Kirkendoll and Jah'Mareah Linville each had seven. Linville also had eight points.
UAFS returns to action Saturday at 1:30 p.m. against Missouri Southern at the Stubblefield Center.
