MARYVILLE, Mo. – Catcher Ryan Riggs drove in four runs but University of Arkansas – Fort Smith Baseball dropped a 16-6 decision in the series finale Sunday at Northwest Missouri State.
The Lions rallied from a five-run deficit to tie the game at 6-6 in the fifth but were unable to keep the Bearcats off the board in the final three frames.
UAFS tallied four runs in the top of the fourth, getting on the board on a sac fly by infielder Eli Gireath and an RBI double by infielder Noah Davis. Riggs then pulled the Lions within 5-4 with a two-run single.
After the Bearcats tacked on a run in the bottom of the fourth, the Lions tied the game in the fifth on a two-out, two-run triple by Riggs.
Riggs was one of four Lions to collect four hits on the afternoon, as outfielders JJ Young, CJ Snowden and designated hitter Nico Patrick all had four base knocks.
Starter Brayden Ross suffered the loss on the mound after allowing nine runs over five innings.
The Lions return home for eight games starting with Rogers State on Tuesday at 3 p.m.
