DURANT, Okla. – University of Arkansas – Fort Smith Baseball tallied a program-record 21 hits as the Lions defeated Southeastern Oklahoma State, 19-8, in the series opener Friday.
Nine different Lions recorded a hit, with six tallying multi-hit games. Outfielder CJ Snowden and infielders Jordon Helm and Noah Davis all collected four hits on the afternoon.
After falling behind 2-0 in the first inning, the Lions struck for a pair of runs in the top of the second to even the game. SEOSU regained the lead in the bottom half of the frame before Davis belted a three-run homer to left in the third for a 5-3 advantage.
The Lions added to their lead in the middle innings, scoring two runs each in the fourth through sixth innings. UAFS led 9-4 before a three-run homer by the Savage Storm made it 9-7.
Leading 11-8 heading into the final two innings, the Lions poured in eight more runs, as Helm capped a three-run eighth with a two-run double down the right field line.
In the ninth, the Lions hit two home runs, one a leadoff blast by Snowden and the other a three-run shot by outfielder Cooper White.
Snowden finished 4-for-7 at the plate with two runs and two RBIs while Davis was 4-for-5 with five runs scored and four RBIs. White and Helm also tallied four RBIs, with White scoring three times, as well.
Grant Edwards earned the win in relief of starter Brayden Ross, tossing five scoreless innings. Edwards struck out four while allowing four hits.
The rest of the weekend schedule has been shifted to a doubleheader on Saturday due to inclement weather on Sunday. The teams will play two seven inning games Saturday starting at noon.
