UAFS to face top-10 team for second straight week

FORT SMITH, Ark. - University of Arkansas - Fort Smith Women's Basketball continues its stretch against the top teams in the MIAA as the Lions will travel to Nebraska-Kearney and Fort Hays State this week.

The Lions and Lopers will take to the court at 5:30 p.m. Thursday before the Lions visit the Tigers at 2 p.m. Saturday. Both games will be streamed on the MIAA Network with live stats available at uafortsmithlions.com.

NOTES:

LAST WEEK: UAFS lost a pair of overtime contests at home, falling in double overtime to Missouri Southern and in overtime to No. 6 Pittsburg State.

OVERTIME: Last week's game marked the second and third time the Lions have gone to overtime this season. They are now 1-2 in such games this year.

TORCH THE NETS: UAFS is averaging 88.7 points per game in its last five with five players averaging double figures. The Lions rank second in the MIAA at 76.3 points per game this season.

AT THE LINE: Opponents are shooting a league-best 74.8 percent against UNK but shooting a league-worst 67.4 percent against UAFS.

SECOND CHANCES: The Lions and Lopers are the top-two offensive rebounding teams in the MIAA, with UNK averaging 13.0 offensive rebounds per game and UAFS 12.4.

RECORD WATCH: Forward Sinetra Jones ranks fifth with 67 career blocks.

SCOUTING UNK: The Lopers are 15-5, 8-3 MIAA and 7-0 on their home court this year. UNK is second in the MIAA in defensive scoring average at 57.4 points per game. Guard Jillian Aschoff is the lone Loper averaging double figures at 10.3 points and 6.5 rebounds per game.

SCOUTING FHSU: This will be the second straight week the Lions face a top-10 opponent, as the Tigers are ranked No. 8 in this week's WBCA Top 25 at 18-2, 9-2 MIAA. The Tigers are third in the league in scoring at 75.6 and have the number one defense at 56.9 points per game. Two Tigers rank in the top five in the MIAA in scoring, as forward Olivia Hollenbeck averages 16.3 points and guard Katie Wagner DeGarmo averages 16.0 points and 7.8 rebounds per game.

THE SERIES: This will be the first time the Lions have played against both Nebraska-Kearney and Fort Hays State.
