FORT SMITH, Ark. - University of Arkansas - Fort Smith Women's Basketball used a strong defensive performance and dominated the fourth quarter as the Lions defeated Northwest Missouri, 56-47, on Senior Day at the Stubblefield Center Saturday.
The 47 points allowed was a season-low for the Lions, who outscored the Bearcats, 19-8, in the final frame. UAFS shot 50.0 percent in the final 10 minutes while holding the Bearcats to 23.1 percent.
UAFS broke a 42-42 tie with a 4-0 run on baskets by guards Telisha Brown and Anna Trusty. Guard Morgan Browning scored the next six points for the Lions as they closed the game on an 8-0 run, holding the Bearcats scoreless for the final 2:34.
For the game, the Lions held the Bearcats to 29.0 percent from the field and 22.2 percent from three. The Lions had four fastbreak points to none for the Bearcats.
Browning led the Lions with 16 points while guard Anna Trusty chipped in with 15 points. Guard Zyniah Thomas added 12 points and five rebounds while forward Layne Kirkendoll had a team-high seven rebounds.
The Lions finished their home slate with an 11-2 record, their most wins at home since the 2015-16 season.
UAFS will begin its final week of the regular season at Central Oklahoma Thursday at 5:30 p.m.
