FORT SMITH, Ark. – Central Missouri scored the first eight points of the second half as University of Arkansas - Fort Smith Men's Basketball dropped a 67-63 decision to the Mules Saturday at the Stubblefield Center.
The Lions turned a 23-22 lead into a seven-point advantage with a 13-7 run, but the Mules scored the final six points of the first half over the last 2:42.
UAFS was unable to recover from that initial run, as it fell behind by double figures before rallying to within six with 2:20 remaining. A three by guard Terrell Williams Jr. made it a four-point game with 10 seconds left, but the Lions' final chances came up empty.
The Lions shot 6-for-14 from three in the first half, but struggled to 2-for-14 in the second half. Meanwhile, the Mules shot 14-for-28 from three for the game and 52.5 percent overall.
Williams was the lone Lion in double figures with 15 points while guard Tommie Williams added nine points, seven rebounds and three assists. Forward Isaiah Lewis and guard Elijah Wilson each scored eight points for the Lions.
UAFS outrebounded the Mules, 32-25, and had a 20-2 advantage in second-chance points. The Lions also doubled up the Mules in points in the paint, 28-14.
The Lions next host Missouri Western at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Stubblefield Center.
