FORT SMITH, Ark. - University of Arkansas - Fort Smith Men's Basketball was unable to hold onto a halftime lead as the Lions were tripped up in a 76-71 defeat to Pittsburg State Saturday at the Stubblefield Center.
UAFS held a 32-30 lead at the break, but the Gorillas started the second half on a 17-3 run over the first five minutes.
The Lions spent the rest of the half chipping away at the lead, eventually pulling within two at 73-71 on a layup by guard Tommie Williams with 25 seconds left. After a pair of Pitt State free throws, the Lions had a three rim out that would have cut the deficit to one.
Pitt State finished 12-for-19 from three, including 8-for-12 in the second half. The Gorillas shot 57.4 percent from the floor while the Lions finished at just 40.0 percent.
The Gorillas had a 25-20 lead before the Lions closed the first half on a 12-5 run.
Forward Isaiah Lewis paced the Lions with 17 points and nine rebounds while guard VJ Reeves added 11 points off the bench. Guards Terrell Williams Jr. and Roland McCoy each finished with nine points.
UAFS will next visit Nebraska-Kearney at 7:30 p.m. on February 6.
