Lions pull away late to defeat Drury

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Both guard Jarren McAllister and forward Kameron Johnson recorded double-doubles as University of Arkansas – Fort Smith Men's Basketball defeated Drury, 94-86, Sunday in its final game before the holiday break to move to 11-0.

McAllister led the Lions with 19 points and 10 rebounds while Johnson finished with 12 points and 10 boards and going 8-for-8 from the free throw line. McAllister was 7-for-8 at the line.

Tied at 77, the No. 20 Lions used a 9-0 run to take an 86-77 lead with under two minutes remaining. Guard Christian Moore had five points during the run while guard VJ Reeves scored four.

UAFS closed out the game by going 8-for-8 at the free throw line and finished the game 33-for-36 as a team.

The Lions led by four in the opening minutes but then found themselves down, 22-13, after a 9-0 run by the Panthers. UAFS battled back, using a 9-0 run of its own to regain the lead a 35-30 and leading 37-36 at halftime.

The margin stayed within three for a majority of the second half in a game that featured 15 ties and 14 lead changes.

Guard Brandon Scott added 18 points for the Lions with Moore contributing 15 points, four assists and three steals.

UAFS outrebounded the Panthers, 44-33, and had a 20-7 edge in second chance points. The Lions also had a 31-11 advantage in fast break points and held Drury to 26.1 percent from beyond the arc.

The Lions return to action January 1 at 3:30 p.m. at the Stubblefield Center against Pittsburg State to resume MIAA play.
