FORT SMITH, Ark. - University of Arkansas - Fort Smith Women's Basketball will take to the road to begin MIAA play this week as the Lions visit Northeastern State and Newman.
UAFS will open league play at Northeastern State at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday before traveling to Newman for a 1:30 p.m. contest on Saturday. Both games will be streamed on the MIAA Network with live stats available at uafortsmithlions.com.
NOTES:
LAST WEEK: UAFS went 1-2 on the week, defeating Drury on the road for its first win of the season.
OT: The Lions have played back-to-back overtime games, defeating Drury before falling at home to Ouachita Baptist.
CRASH THE GLASS: UAFS has four players averaging more than 5.0 rebounds per game, led by forward Mare Rose Priscilla Wemba at 6.6 boards per game.
STEPPING UP: Freshman guard Haleigh Jackson averaged 17.0 points and 7.0 rebounds over the three games last week and is averaging 12.1 points and 5.9 rebounds on the season.
OFF THE BENCH: Guard Jah'Mareah Linville poured in a season-high 21 points with eight rebounds against Ouachita Baptist in a reserve role. She averaged 13.3 points in three games last week after not scoring in her first two appearances.
SCOUTING NSU: The RiverHawks are 6-1 on the year and 2-0 at home. NSU leads the MIAA in free throw percentage at 82.6 percent with four players averaging double figures in scoring, led by forward McKenzie Smith at 14.3 points and 6.7 rebounds per game.
SCOUTING NU: The Jets are 3-3 on the season, with all three wins coming at home. Newman is last in the MIAA in rebounding by more than five rebounds per game. The Jets are led offensively by guard Jaeden McMillin with 15.6 points per game.
THE SERIES: UAFS is 6-6 all-time versus Northeastern State and 14-10 against Newman.
