FORT SMITH, Ark. - University of Arkansas - Fort Smith Volleyball suffered a 3-1 setback Friday to visiting Newman, 25-22, 25-27, 22-25, 18-25, at the Stubblefield Center during Military Appreciation Night.
The Lions rallied from down four in the opening set with a 9-1 run to take a 1-0 lead, but it wouldn't hold as the Jets won the next three frames.
UAFS had a 23-22 lead in set two, but the Jets scored the next two points for a 24-23 advantage. The Lions held off set point twice to tie it at 25-25, but a kill and a UAFS attack error allowed Newman to tie the match.
The Jets then hit .267 and .368 in the final two sets to take the match.
Middle Crystal Smith led the Lions with 13 kills while both outside hitters Bree Pardy and Lydia Pitts added nine apiece. Pardy led the Lions with 16 digs while libero Abbey Jackson collected 12.
Setters Scarlette Young and Trinity Funderburk recorded 19 and 17 assists, respectively. Young recorded three of seven aces for the Lions with Pardy and Smith collecting two each.
The Lions doubled the Jets in blocks, 6-3.
UAFS wraps up its home schedule Saturday at 1 p.m. against Pittsburg State for Senior Day.
