FORT SMITH, Ark. - University of Arkansas - Fort Smith Women's Basketball went to overtime for the second straight game Saturday, but came up short, 80-76, to Ouachita Baptist at the Stubblefield Center.
The Lions fell behind by four at the start of the overtime period but tied it at 72-72 on a jumper by guard Jah'Mareah Linville. However, the Tigers then scored the next four points after a pair of missed free throws by the Lions.
UAFS took a 62-61 lead on a three by guard Haleigh Jackson with 3:26 left but the Tigers scored the next five points until the Lions sent the game to overtime in the final seconds on a three by guard Senese Rainey.
The Lions led, 15-12, after the first 10 minutes but the Tigers shot 62.5 percent in the second quarter to lead the Lions by four at the break.
After upping the defensive effort in the third quarter, the Lions took the lead at the start of the fourth on a three by guard Keytonna Ross. The game then featured four ties until the Jackson triple.
UAFS dominated the glass, 51-40, as both Ross and Marie Rose Priscilla Wemba recorded double-doubles of 10 points and 11 rebounds. Linville led the Lions with 21 points and eight boards while Jackson added 17 points and seven boards.
The Lions had a 44-30 edge in points in the paint, but the Tigers outscored the Lions, 21-8, in points off turnovers.
UAFS will begin MIAA play Tuesday when the Lions visit Northeastern State at 5:30 p.m.
