SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – University of Arkansas – Fort Smith Women's Basketball picked up its first win of the season Wednesday, defeating Drury, 74-65 in overtime at the Drury Thanksgiving Classic.
Tied at 63 at the end of regulation, the Lions dominated the extra frame, outscoring the Panthers, 11-2, and not allowing any made field goals. Guard Jah'Mareah Linville had six of her 12 points in overtime.
Back-and-forth throughout the first 40 minutes, the game featured 18 ties and 11 lead changes. UAFS had the largest lead of the game at five points twice.
Three others joined Linville in double figures, led by guard Caiyah Smith with 19 points on 7-of-12 shooting including 3-for-4 from beyond the arc. Haleigh Jackson tallied 16 points, eight rebounds, four assists and three steals while Keytonna Ross also scored 16 points.
Layne Kirkendoll pulled down a game-high 13 rebounds as the Lions won the battle on the boards, 41-37. UAFS shot 43.3 percent in the win and had a 32-24 advantage in points in the paint.
The Lions will have one more tuneup before MIAA play begins as UAFS hosts Ouachita Baptist at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Stubblefield Center.
