Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Lions outlast Reddies in overtime

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – Jarren McAllister blocked a potential go-ahead layup with five seconds left as University of Arkansas – Fort Smith Men's Basketball outlasted Henderson State, 95-92, Wednesday afternoon in overtime.

McAllister and Christian Moore each hit clutch threes in the final minutes of regulation to tie the game at 84-84 before neither team scored in the final 1:36 to go to overtime.

In the extra period, the Lions scored the first five points before the Reddies got within one twice in the final 90 seconds. After a miss, HSU had a fastbreak opportunity but McAllister rose to the occasion as the last line of defense before Moore put the Lions ahead by three at the line.

UAFS led by as many as 12 in the first half, but the Reddies closed out the final four minutes of the half on a 16-5 run to lead 42-41 at the half. The Lions then started the second half on a 7-0 run and grew the lead back to seven at 53-46.

The margin was never more than four over the final 12 minutes of regulation, as the game featured nine ties and eight lead changes.

Moore led the Lions with 23 points, five assists and four steals while VJ Reeves added 14 points off the bench. Moore and Reeves combined for seven of the 15 made threes for the Lions.

Aiden Buckmon was perfect from the floor as he added 12 points and McAllister chipped in 11 points. Donovan Black finished with three blocks, including one at the end of regulation and one on the last second heave in overtime.

The 5-0 start is the best start for the Lions since 2017-18, when UAFS started 9-0 that season.

UAFS will begin MIAA play after the holiday break on December 2 at 7:30 p.m. at Northeastern State.
