SKIATOOK, Okla. – Guard Christian Moore converted a three-point play with 15 seconds remaining as University of Arkansas - Fort Smith Men's Basketball moved to 2-0 with a 73-70 win over Ouachita Baptist Saturday.
Moore initially gave the Lions a 68-67 lead on a layup with just under a minute remaining, but the Tigers answered with a jumper in the paint with 23 second left. Moore then fought through contact and made the free throw for a 7-68 advantage.
Ouachita went to the line to tie the game with three seconds left, but went 1-for-2 before Moore iced the game with a pair of free throws on the other end.
The Lions got off to another fast start, leading 20-9 at the 12:03 mark of the first half. UAFS then led by four at the break before the Tigers took their first lead at 37-36 in the first three minutes of the second half.
UAFS briefly regained the lead at 44-41 after five quick points from guard Kanaan Holder, but a 7-0 run from the Tigers gave them the lead until Moore's baskets in the final minute.
Moore led the Lions with 20 points, shooting 11-for-13 from the charity stripe and dishing out three assists. UAFS finished 23-for-28 as a team at the foul line.
Brandon Scott contributed 17 points while forward Kameron Johnson posted a double-double of 16 points and 13 rebounds. Nine of Johnson's rebounds were on the offensive end.
The Lions outrebounded the Tigers, 46-31 and had a 22-8 advantage in second chance points. UAFS had 20 offensive rebounds.
UAFS will next take on University of the Ozarks in its home opener Tuesday at 6 p.m. at the Stubblefield Center for its annual Toy Toss game.
