MONTICELLO, Ark. – University of Arkansas – Fort Smith Volleyball cruised to a sweep over in-state foe Arkansas-Monticello Tuesday, 25-17, 25-15, 25-19, in nonconference action.
The Lions outhit the Blossoms, .265-.111, with a high of .321 in set two.
UAFS broke a 7-7 tie in the opening set with a 5-0 run with three kills from outside hitter Lydia Pitts. After a 3-0 run by UAM, UAFS used another 5-0 burst for a 17-10 advantage before easing to a set one win.
The Lions trailed, 8-6, early in set two before a 4-0 run put them ahead. Leading 16-13, the Lions closed the set by scoring nine of the last 11 points for a commanding 2-0 lead.
Despite a late challenge from UAM in set three, the Lions led the entirety of the set, ending the match with four straight points.
Pitts led the Lions with eight kills, while middle Crystal Smith added seven while hitting .364 and right-side hitter Morgan Creer hit .333 with six kills.
Setters Scarlette Young and Trinity Funderburk had 16 and 13 assists, respectively, while libero Abbey Jackson had a team-high 13 digs. Pitts posted a double-double with 11 digs.
UAFS had a 9-2 advantage in aces and 10-2 edge in blocks, with Young recording five aces as Creer and Smith totaled five and four blocks, respectively.
UAFS returns home Friday to face Missouri Western at 6 p.m. at the Stubblefield Center.
