FORT SMITH, Ark. - University of Arkansas - Fort Smith Volleyball was unable to keep pace with Missouri Western Friday at the Stubblefield Center, falling in three sets, 25-17, 25-21, 25-13 to the Griffons.
Both teams came out swinging in the first set, as the Griffons hit .344 and the Lions .323. However, the Griffons jumped out to an 8-3 lead in the set with the Lions unable to chip away at the deficit.
The Lions fell behind again in set two but rallied with a 6-1 run to tie the set at 19. But the Griffons took advantage of three UAFS attack errors to score six of the final eight points and take a 2-0 lead.
Missouri Western then hit .282 in the final set to -.029 for the Lions. MoWest finished hitting .267 to .091 for UAFS.
Both outside hitter Lydia Pitts and right-side hitter Morgan Creer had seven kills to lead the Lions while setter Scarlette Young had a double-double with 27 assists and 10 digs.
Libero Abbey Jackson had a team-high 14 digs.
UAFS had a 7-4 edge in blocks, receiving three each from Pitts and middle Aspen Olson and four from middle Crystal Smith.
The Lions are right back at it Saturday at 1 p.m. against Northwest Missouri State at the Stubblefield Center.
