JOPLIN, Mo. – University of Arkansas – Fort Smith Volleyball was unable to get back in the win column Friday as the Lions dropped a four-set decision at Missouri Southern, 19-25, 25-12, 19-25, 22-25.
Middle Aspen Olson led the Lion attack with a .563 attack percentage while racking up nine kills. Outside hitters Bree Pardy and Lydia Pitts added 11 and 10 kills, with right-side hitter Morgan Creer tallying eight as UAFS hit .180 for the match.
Setter Scarlette Young dished out 21 assists while fellow setter Trinity Funderburk had 19.
Defensively, Pardy and libero Abbey Jackson each had 11 digs to lead the team. At the net, UAFS had a 10-6 edge in blocks with six from middle Crystal Smith and four others collecting three.
After dropping set one, UAFS dominated in set two, hitting .385 while holding MSSU to -.029. The Lions broke open the set with a 6-0 run on three blocks by Smith as UAFS scored 12 of the final 14 points in the set.
However, MSSU bounced back to hit .308 in set three, using a 7-1 run to turn a 12-11 lead into a 19-12 advantage. Down to their final point in set four, UAFS rallied with three straight points before the home team closed out the match.
The Lions are back in action Saturday as they visit Central Missouri at 2 p.m.
