Women's Basketball tripped up in fourth quarter at MSSU

JOPLIN, Mo. – University of Arkansas – Fort Smith Women's Basketball was unable to hold onto a fourth quarter lead as the Lions fell to Missouri Southern, 91-79, Saturday afternoon.

The Lions scored the first four points of the final frame to take a 67-65 lead only to see Missouri Southern go on a 10-0 run over the next three minutes.

A three by guard Anna Trusty pulled the Lions within 81-76 with just under four minutes left but MSSU went on another 10-0 run to put the game away.

The game featured 10 lead changes and nine ties as the game was played within four points for nearly 20 minutes between the second and fourth quarters.

After MSSU led by double figures in the first quarter, UAFS used a 14-2 run in the second quarter to knot things up at 30-30. UAFS briefly took a 34-33 lead before going into the locker room down by one.

Guard Morgan Browning led the Lions with 20 points on 7-of-12 shooting to go with four rebounds and six assists. Trusty added 16 points while guard Olivia Johnson contributed 10 points.

Missouri Southern was lethal from beyond the arc, shooting 12-for-21. UAFS had a strong showing from three, as well, going 11-for-28. UAFS had the edge in points in the paint, points off turnovers and second chance points.

The Lions return home January 8 to host Rogers State at 5:30 p.m. at the Stubblefield Center.
