Women's Basketball scores season-high 96 in rout over Newman

WICHITA, Kan. – University of Arkansas – Fort Smith Women's Basketball scored its most points of the season Thursday in a 96-54 road MIAA win at Newman.

The 42-point win is the largest since a 53-point win over Texas A&M International in the 2018-19 season.

The Lions had six players score in double figures and shot 54.2 percent from the field, their second-highest mark of the season. The Lions also made a season-high 14 threes while shooting 51.9 percent from beyond the arc.

All 12 players that saw action scored for the Lions, led by guard Morgan Browning with 17 points. Guard Zyniah Thomas added 14 points while forward Sinetra Jones had 13 points. Both Browning and Thomas dished out four assists.

Sofia McNabb, Telisha Brown and Daijah Smith all recorded double figures off the bench for the Lions with 11, 10 and 10 points respectively. Brown dished out a team-high seven assists to go with six rebounds.

UAFS jumped on the Jets right away, shooting 55.6 percent in the opening quarter as it built a 28-10 lead after 10 minutes. The Lions led by 20 at the break before the Jets but the lead to 13 late in the third. However, the Lions closed the game by outscoring the Jets, 42-13, over the last 13 minutes.

The Lions hit a three in the final seconds in each of the first three quarters and had advantages of 21-6 in points off turnovers and 34-24 in points in the paint.

UAFS will look to keep the offense rolling when the Lions visit Emporia State at 1:30 p.m. Sunday.
