WICHITA, Kan. – University of Arkansas – Fort Smith Men's Basketball was unable to overcome a slow start in a 78-64 defeat at Newman Thursday in MIAA action.
After falling behind early, the Lions closed the first half on an 11-4 run to trail 35-28 at the break. The Lions carried that momentum over to the second half, as guard Terrell Williams Jr. tied the game at 53-53 while scoring six straight points.
However, the Jets then went on a 10-2 run to go back up by eight. UAFS pulled back within four before Newman once again led by double digits.
Williams Jr. led four players in double figures with 13 points while guards Tommie Williams and Elijah Wilson each added 12 points. Guard Kobe Campbell scored 10 points in his season debut.
UAFS next plays Sunday at Emporia State at 3:30 p.m.
