PITTSBURG, Kan. – University of Arkansas – Fort Smith Women's Basketball was unable to slow down No. 14 Pittsburg State Thursday, as the Lions fell to the Gorillas, 91-71, as the teams resumed MIAA play.
Guard Anna Trusty led the Lions with 16 points while guards Telisha Brown and Morgan Browning tallied 13 and 11 points, respectively. The Lions shot just 38.5 percent from the field while the Gorillas shot 51.7 percent.
UAFS hung around in the first half, trailing by seven after the first 10 minutes and then playing even in the second quarter as PSU led 42-35 at the break. After the Lions cut it to five to start the third, the Gorillas went on an 8-0 to build the lead to double digits.
A three by Trusty pulled the Lions within 69-62 with 7:34 remaining but once again the Gorillas answered with an 8-0 run.
Both teams scored over 40 points in the paint, and the Lions had a 12-6 edge in fast break points. Forward Sinetra Jones had five blocks in the loss.
