PITTSBURG, Kan. – University of Arkansas – Fort Smith Men's Basketball was unable to overcome a slow start as the Lions fell to Pittsburg State, 70-59, Thursday in a return to MIAA action.
The Lions scored the first basket of the game but was held scoreless for seven minutes as the Gorillas went on a 20-0 run. UAFS was able to cut the lead to single digits at the half to 35-26, as guard Garrett Scott drained a triple at the buzzer.
However, the Gorillas regained their advantage in the second half with the Lions only getting back within 10 in the final minutes.
Guard Jarren McAllister scored a team-high 12 points while guard Elijah Wilson added 11 points. Forward Isaiah Lewis contributed 10 points, while forward D'Ante Bell pulled down 12 rebounds. Guard Tommie Williams grabbed eight boards.
UAFS next plays at Missouri Southern at 3:30 p.m. Saturday.
