TYLER, Texas – University of Arkansas – Fort Smith Baseball clinched a berth in the Lone Star Conference Championship Tournament with a 3-2 win over UT Tyler Saturday in the regular season finale for both teams.
Trailing 2-0 in the bottom of the seventh, the Lions loaded the bases with no outs before Michael Brinton walked to score the Lions' first run of the game. The next batter, Nico Patrick then singled up the middle to drive in a pair and give UAFS a 3-2 lead.
The first five batters all reached sagely inn the inning for the Lions.
Patrick and Noah Davis each collected two hits, while Brandon Ulmer went 3-for-4 with a run scored.
Riley Lowry finished the year with seven strong innings, earning the win after allowing just two runs on seven hits. Luke Davenport and Logan Grant each tossed a scoreless inning in relief, with Grant picking up his second save of the weekend and fifth of the season.
UAFS will now await its opponent for the LSC Tournament, with the first round a best-of-three series scheduled for May 3-5.
