FORT SMITH, Ark. - University of Arkansas - Fort Smith Women's Tennis collected its first Lone Star Conference win of the season Thursday by defeating Western New Mexico, 5-2, at Ben Geren Park.
The Lions went up 1-0 by sweeping doubles, with Petra Csizmadia and Arianna De Bernardo tallying a 7-5 win at No. 1. At No. 2, Camila Romero and Taylor Conway picked up a 6-3 win, while Isabella Serrano and Antonietta Bocache finished off the sweep with a 6-2 win at No. 3.
In singles play, De Bernardo responded in a big way after dropping the first set by not dropping a game to win 6-7, 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 to put the Lions back on top. Romero extended the lead to 3-1 with a 6-3, 6-0 win at No. 3.
Conway sealed the match for the Lions with a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 5 while Serrano tallied a point at No. 6 via forfeit.
Bocache went back-and-forth at No. 4 before dropping a 6-3, 4-6, 5-7 decision.
The Lions continue conference play Saturday at 10 a.m. against UT Permian Basin at Ben Geren Park.
