TAHLEQUAH, Okla. – University of Arkansas – Fort Smith Women's Tennis battled at Northeastern State Saturday, but was defeated, 5-2, by the Riverhawks.
Petra Csizmadia and Arianna De Bernardo easily won their singles matches at Nos. 1 & 2, with Csizmadia claiming a 6-2, 6-0 win and De Bernardo 6-2, 6-2.
Antonietta Bocache nearly pulled out the win at No. 4 singles, winning set one, 7-6, before dropping set two, 6-3. In the tiebreaking set, Bocache came up on the wrong end of a 13-11 defeat.
UAFS narrowly lost the doubles point, splitting the first two matches with the third turning out to be a thriller. Taylor Conway and Camila Romero cruised to a 6-1 win at No. 2, while Csizmadia and De Bernardo went the distance at No. 1.
Tied 6-6, the duo played and exciting tiebreaker before coming up just short, 14-12.
Next up for the Lions is a matchup February 29 at Harding University at 1 p.m.
