PORTALES, N.M. – Eastern New Mexico scored with three seconds left as University of Arkansas – Fort Smith Women's Basketball fell to the Greyhounds, 56-54, Saturday in the Lions' final road game of the regular season.
Guard Zyniah Thomas drained a corner three to tie the game at 54-54 with 28 seconds left, but the Greyhounds tallied a layup on the ensuing possession to up by two. The Lions called timeout to advance the ball, but the tying shot rimmed out.
Prior to the Thomas three, the Lions led 51-46 before being held scoreless for four minutes as the Greyhounds went on an 8-0 run.
The Lions trailed 30-25 at halftime and were down four at the start of the fourth but went on a 10-0 run over two minutes to take the 51-46 lead. Forward Sinetra Jones scored eight of her team-high 10 points during the run.
Jones was the only Lion in double figures, with Thomas and guard Morgan Browning each scoring nine points. Guard Riley Hayes added eight points.
The game featured seven ties and five lead changes. ENMU had a 19-8 advantage in points off turnovers.
UAFS returns home Friday for its final game of the regular season against Oklahoma Christian at 5:30 p.m.
