Women's Basketball's postseason push continues in New Mexico

FORT SMITH, Ark. - University of Arkansas - Fort Smith Women's Basketball heads west for the final time this season as the Lions are set to visit Western New Mexico and Eastern New Mexico this weekend.

The Lions and Mustangs tip off at 6:30 p.m. Thursday with the Lions then taking on the Greyhounds at 2 p.m. Saturday. Both games will be streamed on the Lone Star Conference Digital Network with live stats available at uafortsmithlions.com.

NOTES:

LAST WEEK: UAFS defeated St. Edward's and St. Mary's by an average of 27.5 points at the Stubblefield Center on Homecoming weekend.

POTW: Guard Zyniah Thomas was named the Lone Star Conference after recording nine steals – seven against St. Edward's – and holding opponents to 12.5 percent from three and 53.0 points per game.

BEYOND THE ARC: UAFS ranks second in the LSC by shooting 34.0 percent from three and third with 7.7 makes per game. Guard Riley Hayes tied her career high with seven made threes against St. Edward's.

DISHING IT OUT: UAFS had 18 assists in Saturday's win over St. Mary's, their second most this season. It led to a season-high 33 made field goals.

RECORD WATCH: Hayes ranks third with 137 career made threes and forward Kayla Brundidge is tied for 10th with 328 career rebounds.

POSTSEASON PUSH: The Lions currently hold the No. 8 seed in the LSC standings with three games to play.

SCOUTING WNMU: The Mustangs are 8-15, 3-15 LSC after having lost their last seven games. WNMU has the lowest scoring offense in the league at 57.1 points per game, with guard Sydney Wright the only Mustang averaging double figures with 11.0 points per game.

SCOUTING ENMU: The Greyhounds enter the weekend at 8-16, 4-14 LSC after dropping their last three contests. ENMU allows opponents to shoot 45.2 percent from the floor and 35.1 percent from three, both highest in the LSC. Forward Ishuana Hunter leads three Greyhounds in double figures with 14.9 points and 7.9 rebounds per game.

THE SERIES: UAFS is 3-0 against Western New Mexico and 1-2 against Eastern New Mexico.
