FORT SMITH, Ark. – Guard Riley Hayes drained seven threes and scored a game-high 23 points as University of Arkansas - Fort Smith Women's Basketball defeated St. Edward's, 75-50, Thursday at Gayle Kaundart Arena at the Stubblefield Center.
The seven threes tied her career high, as she went 7-for-11 from beyond the arc and 8-for-13 from the field. Hayes also pulled down a team-high seven rebounds.
St. Edward's went up 3-2 in the first two minutes before the Lions ripped of a 19-0 run to lead 21-3 with 3:46 left in the first quarter. The Lions led 26-8 after the first 10 minutes after making five triples and shooting 62.5 percent from the field.
UAFS continued the hot shooting in the second quarter, shooting 53.3 percent from the field and scoring 20 points to take a 46-22 lead into the break.
The Lions grew the lead to as many as 31 in the fourth quarter as they coasted to victory. They finished by shooting 54.5 percent in the fourth.
UAFS finished 13-for-29 from beyond the arc, its second most makes this season and ninth time the Lions have made 10 or more threes in a game.
Guard Zyniah Thomas added 11 points, four assists and tied for the second most steals in a single game with seven. Forward Kayla Brundidge contributed nine points and six rebounds, while guard Morgan Browning scored seven points and dished out a season-high eight assists.
The Lions forced 24 turnovers and had a 29-9 advantage in points off turnovers.
