ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – Ouachita Baptist drained a three from the left wing as time expired as University of Arkansas - Fort Smith Women's Basketball fell to the Tigers, 66-65, Saturday at Bill Vining Arena.
UAFS took a 64-63 lead on a layup by forward Sinetra Jones with 1:14 remaining and added a free throw for a two-point advantage with 52 seconds left.
The Lions had an opportunity to extend the lead in the final seconds, but the shot rimmed out and the Tigers collected the rebound and raced the other way for the three at the buzzer.
UAFS had battled back from a 15-point first half deficit, clawing back to within 41-34 at the half. The Lions then dominated the third quarter, 21-8, taking a 55-49 lead into the fourth after holding the Tigers to 23.1 percent shooting in the frame.
However, the Tigers opened the fourth quarter on a 7-0 run before the teams traded the lead three times and had two ties in the final minutes.
Jones paced the Lions with 15 points and nine rebounds while guard Anna Trusty tallied 14 points and six boards. Guard Zyniah Thomas chipped in with 12 points, seven rebounds and five assists.
UAFS returns to action after the holiday break January 2 at Pittsburg State.
