Women's Basketball to make MIAA debut against Northeastern State, Newman

FORT SMITH, Ark. - University of Arkansas - Fort Smith Women's Basketball is set to make its MIAA debut Tuesday as the Lions take on Northeastern State at Gayle Kaundart Arena at the Stubblefield Center.

The Lions and RiverHawks will tip at 5:30 p.m., with the Lions later hosting Newman at 1 p.m. Saturday.

Both games will be streamed on the MIAA Network and broadcast on Fox Sports Radio 103.5 with live stats available at uafortsmithlions.com.

The Lions will also be signing their 2024-25 schedule posters at halftime of the men's game Tuesday.

NOTES:

LAST WEEK: The Lions went 1-1 at Drury, falling to the host Panthers before bouncing back with a win over Truman State.

FROM DISTANCE: UAFS ranks third in the MIAA with 7.8 made threes per game, with guard Hannah Boyett fifth in the league at 2.7 made threes per game while shooting 46.7 percent.

IN ANNA WE TRUST(Y): Guard Anna Trusty currently leads the Lions in scoring and rebounding at 14.2 points and 7.0 rebounds per game.

STAT SHEET STUFFER: Guard Zyniah Thomas posted her second game of at least 10 points, five rebounds and five assists this season in the win over Truman State. She also added five steals in the win.

LEAGUE OPENER: UAFS is 7-8 in conference openers since 2009.

RECORD WATCH: Boyett is at 973 career points as she looks to become the first player in the NCAA II era to score 1,000 career points. Forward Sinetra Jones is ninth with 45 blocks.

SCOUTING NSU: The RiverHawks are 4-3 on the year after winning their last four games. They are 0-1 on the road, losing at Southeastern Oklahoma State, an opponent the Lions defeated. NSU struggles to score, averaging just 66.3 points per game while ranking in the bottom three in the MIAA in field goal, three-point and free throw percentage. Guard Alex Hill leads NSU with 14.8 points per game.

SCOUTING NU: The Jets are 4-4 after splitting with Truman State and Drury last week. Newman averages just 63.3 points per game and is last in the MIAA in field goal percentage at 37.1 percent. Forward Jaeden McMillin leads the Jets with 14.1 points and 6.1 rebounds per game.

THE SERIES: UAFS is 12-10 all-time against Newman and 4-6 versus Northeastern State.
