QUINCY, Ill. – Four Lions scored in double figures as University of Arkansas – Fort Smith Men's Basketball earned a 78-74 win at Quincy Wednesday evening.
The Lions erupted for 52 second-half points as they shot 65.4 percent from the floor and finished at 54.9 percent for the game.
After six lead changes in the first six minutes of the second half, the Lions took the lead for good by breaking a 47-47 tie on back-to-back layups by forward Isaiah Lewis. The Lions led by as many as eight with four minutes remaining, with the majority of the half being played within five points.
The Lions scored eight of their final 10 points of the game from the free throw line to close out the win. Quincy converted a four-point play with five seconds left to get within two, but the Lions broke the press and guard Terrell Williams Jr. put an exclamation point on the game with a dunk.
Quincy led by as many as 12 midway through the first half but the Lions closed on a 14-5 run over the final eight minutes to cut the deficit to three. Guard Tommie Williams and forward D'Ante Bell had four points each during the run.
Guard Elijah Wilson led the Lions with 19 points and five rebounds while Lewis chipped in with 16 points. Williams Jr. had 13 points while Williams added 11 and a team-high six rebounds.
UAFS had advantages of 25-16 in points off turnovers and 40-30 in points in the paint.
The Lions will next make their MIAA debut Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. at the Stubblefield Center against Northeastern State.
