FORT SMITH, Ark. - University of Arkansas - Fort Smith Women's Basketball scored a season-high 91 points as the Lions defeated Southeastern Oklahoma State, 91-81, Saturday afternoon at the Stubblefield Center.
Guard Morgan Browning led the Lions with 19 points as they shot 43.3 percent from the floor. Guard Hannah Boyett tallied 15 points by going 5-for-5 from beyond the arc while forward Sinetra Jones added 12 points. Guard Anna Trusty made her return to the court by collecting her second consecutive double-double of 14 points and 11 rebounds.
The Lions jumped out to a 6-1 lead on the Savage Storm before leading 16-14 after the first 10 minutes. UAFS then broke the game open in the second, using an 11-2 run to extend a 32-20 lead to 43-22. Boyett and guard Jordan Gregory each drained triples during the run.
UAFS took a 45-29 lead into the locker room, then replicated the second quarter success in the third. The Lions shot 55.6 percent in each quarter, scoring 29 and 28 points, respectively. The Lions held their largest lead of the game in the third at 24 points, up 71-47.
The Lions then had to hold on in the fourth, as the Savage Storm pulled to within eight with 4:43 left before the Lions iced the game with nine free throws in the final minute and a half.
UAFS won the rebounding battle, 51-38, leading to a 13-4 edge in second-chance points. Forward Layne Kirkendoll matched Trusty with 11 boards. The Lions also had a 38-17 advantage in bench points an 18-8 edge in fastbreak points.
