Lions roar past Bearcats in Hampton Inn Classic finale

FORT SMITH, Ark. - University of Arkansas - Fort Smith Women's Basketball dished out its most assists in a game since 2020 with 21 as the Lions defeated Southwest Baptist, 78-57, Sunday in the final game of the Hampton Inn Classic at the Stubblefield Center.

Guard Hannah Boyett led the Lions with seven dimes while also scoring a game-high 15 points, all from beyond the arc. She hit three of her five triples in the first quarter as the Lions led, 19-9.

After leading 35-23 at the break, the Lions exploded in the third quarter, shooting 68.8 percent from the floor and outscoring the Bearcats, 31-16. UAFS held its largest lead of the game at the end of the third at 27 points, 66-39.

The Lions defense held the Bearcats to just 23.1 percent shooting and had advantages of 16-2 in fastbreak points and 22-11 in second-chance points. UAFS had a 34-16 edge in points in the paint.

Forward Sinetra Jones secured a double-double of 12 points and 10 rebounds, while also collecting three steals and two blocks.

Guard Zyniah Thomas gave the Lions three double figure scorers with 14 points by going 6-for-6 from the field. Forward Sofia McNabb chipped in with nine points off the bench while guard Telisha Brown contributed six points, five rebounds and four assists.

Forward Layne Kirkendoll tallied three of the Lions' eight blocks on the afternoon.

Next up for the Lions is a home contest against Southeastern Oklahoma State November 23 at 1 p.m. at the Stubblefield Center.
