ARLINGTON, Texas - University of Arkansas - Fort Smith Men's Tennis secured its first Lone Star Conference Tournament win in program history Thursday by defeating No. 4 seed Lubbock Christian, 4-3, in the quarterfinals at the Arlington Tennis Center.
After dropping the doubles point, the Lions roared back in singles play.
Killian Darneaux brought the Lions within 2-1 with a 6-0, 7-5 victory at No. 4 before Eduardo Bribiesca evened the match at 2-2 with a 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 3.
Lubbock regained the lead with a win at No. 6, but Juan Patino and Juan Rosello rallied the Lions back with three-set wins at Nos. 5 & 6, respectively.
Patino tied the match at 3-3 after a 6-3, 0-6, 6-4 win, and after splitting the first two sets, 4-6, 6-4, Rosello cruised, 6-0, in the final set to give the Lions the thrilling victory.
UAFS now advances to the semifinals where it will face No. 7 and top-seeded UT Tyler on Friday at 9:30 a.m.
