SAN ANGELO, Texas – University of Arkansas – Fort Smith Baseball closed its series with No. 3 Angelo State with a seven-inning slugfest Sunday, dropping a 21-11 decision to the Rams.
The Lions fell behind 14-2 after four innings, with designated hitter Tanner Callahan hitting a two-run homer to left.
UAFS then rallied with seven runs in the top of the fifth, cutting the lead to 14-9. The Lions hit three homers in the inning, starting with a three-run homer by infielder Noah Davis. Following a walk, infielder Matt Schilling hit a two-run blast and catcher Kade Brewer hit a solo shot for the third homer.
The Lions then added three consecutive singles for the final run of the inning.
UAFS pulled within three after plating two more in the seventh, but the Rams scored once in the sixth and six times in the seventh for the run-rule win.
Schilling finished 4-for-4 with three RBIs while Davis was 3-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs scored. Callahan went 2-for-5 with a pair of runs scored.
Trevor Johnson started on the mound for the Lions and took the loss.
UAFS returns home March 10-12 to host Texas A&M International at Crowder Field.
