FORT SMITH, Ark. - University of Arkansas - Fort Smith Women's Basketball saw a halftime lead slip away as Texas &M-Kingsville outscored the Lions, 26-7, in the third quarter to defeat the Lions, 72-55.
The Lions shot just 22.2 percent in the third compared to 60.0 percent for the Javelinas. TAMUK opened the quarter on a 17-2 run.
TAMUK led by six midway through the first quarter, but guard Hannah Boyett hit three of her five threes in the opening 10 minutes as the Lions trailed just 23-20 after the opening frame.
In the second quarter, Boyett gave the Lions the lead at 31-30 on her fourth three – the first lead for UAF since 6-4. The Lions then went into the halftime break up 35-34 behind 12 points from Boyett.
Boyett led the Lions by finishing with 15 points, all from beyond the arc. Her five threes pull her within four of tying the program record.
Guard Sydney Nunley added seven points and four rebounds for the Lions, while guard Truth Taylor contributed five points and five boards. 11 players entered the scoring column for the Lions.
Texas A&M-Kingsville had a 23-9 advantage in points off turnovers, including 13-4 in that decisive third quarter. TAMUK also had a 26-14 advantage in points in the paint.
UAFS is next set to host Texas A&M International at 5:30 p.m. Monday.
