Women's Basketball preps for league opener Thursday

FORT SMITH, Ark. – University of Arkansas – Fort Smith Women's Basketball returns to the Stubblefield Center this week as the Lions begin Lone Star Conference play against West Texas A&M and Lubbock Christian.

West Texas A&M will face the Lions Thursday at 5:30 p.m. with the Lions and Chaps squaring off Saturday at 1 p.m.

Both games will be streamed on the Lone Star Conference Digital Network as well as broadcast on Fox Sports Radio 103.5. Live stats will be available at uafortsmithlions.com.

NOTES:

LAST WEEK: UAFS wrapped up nonconference play with a pair of losses to Arkansas Tech and UA Monticello.

BEYOND THE ARC: UAFS has held opponents to a 25.7 percent clip from beyond the arc to start the season, the top mark in the LSC.

BLOCK PARTY: The Lions rank third in the LSC with 3.33 blocks per game. Forward Sinetra Jones ranks fourth with 1.7 blocks per game.

LEAGUE OPENER: UAFS is 7-7 in conference openers.

RECORD WATCH: Guard Hannah Boyett ranks fifth all-time in the NCAA II era with 773 career points, just 31 shy of the record held by Jasmine Brainard. Guard Riley Hayes is two threes shy of moving into the top five with 96 career made threes.

SCOUTING WT: The Buffs are 3-3 on the young season, allowing the second most points in the league after nonconference play with 68.2 points per game. Three Buffs average double figures, led by guard Hollie Stalder's 11.0 points per game off the bench.

SCOUTING LCU: The Chaps are 5-2 and receiving votes in this week's WBCA Top 25 Coaches Poll. LCU finished the nonconference slate by leading the LSC in field goal, three-point and free throw percentage. Forward Grace Foster leads LCU with 16.9 points and 6.4 rebounds per game.

THE SERIES: UAFS is still looking for its first win against WT, as the Buffs lead the series, 9-0. The Lions are looking for their second win against LCU, as the Chaps hold a 16-1 advantage in the series.
