LAREDO, Texas – University of Arkansas – Fort Smith Women's Basketball used a fourth quarter surge to take down Texas A&M International, 57-53, Saturday at the TAMIU Kinesiology and Convocation Building.

The Lions outscored the Dustdevils 25-11 over the final 10 minutes, shooting 58.8 percent from the floor and holding TAMIU to just 28.6 percent. Additionally, the Lions forced nine turnovers in the final frame.

UAFS trailed 42-32 after three quarters, but started the quarter on an 11-1 run to tie the game at 43. The run continued when forward Kayla Brundidge gave the Lions their first lead since 20-19 in the second quarter.

Holding a 49-48 lead with 2:33 remaining, guards Aaliyah Prince and Riley Hayes scored on three straight possessions as the Lions grew the lead to 55-48. The Dustdevils got back within two with just seconds remaining before guard Rodrea Echols closed the game with a pair of free throws.

Prince led the Lions with 19 points on 8-of-12 shooting to go with five rebounds and three assists. Guard Hannah Boyett added eight points, while both Brundidge and guard Nya Stewart each had six. Brundidge pulled down a team-high six rebounds.

Defensively, the Lions held the Dustdevils to just 13 percent from beyond the arc and had a 22-16 advantage in points off turnovers. UAFS had 14 steals – five from Brundidge – and 33 points from its reserves.

The Lions return home Thursday for a contest against St. Mary's at 5:30 p.m.
