DENTON, Texas – No. 4 Texas Woman's was too much for University of Arkansas – Fort Smith Women's Basketball Saturday, with the Pioneers defeating the Lions, 87-58, at Kitty Magee Arena.
TWU built a 26-10 lead at the end of the first quarter by shooting 62.5 percent and finished at 47.6 percent to just 37.3 percent for the Lions.
Despite the deficit, the Lions kept competing by outscoring the Pioneers, 23-22, in the fourth quarter. UAFS shot 50.0 percent in the final frame.
The Lions recorded 16 second-chance points on 12 offensive rebounds.
Guard Riley Hayes led the Lions with 12 points and five boards with both forwards Kayla Brundidge and Dala Allen each scoring 10 points. Brundidge had a team-high seven rebounds. Guard Rodrea Echols added eight points while guard Hannah Boyett had seven.
The Lions return home Thursday to host Texas A&M International.
